Yesterday, I got the chance to attend Carol's Daughter 100 Billion Curls meet-up hosted by Fierce Naturals of L.A. This celebration of curls took place in the Carol's Daughter store right here in L.A. located in the Fox Hills Mall in Culver City. Once inside, you were greeted by not only super friendly associates, but the smell of almond cookies. Nom!
Once I filled out a raffle ticket to win a gift basket full of luxurious goodies, I scoured the room for familiar faces. Instantly I was greeted by Cheryl and Robert (owners of Mingle and Plei LA). Cheryl makes up half of the Fierce Naturals organizers. I made my way around towards the back of the store where I found a table lined with cupcakes by Southern Girl Desserts and cups of champagne. DOUBLE NOM NOM!
Everyone mingled and checked out the products around the store. Saniyyah, the regional manager, introduced everyone who made the Fierce Naturals meet-up possible, including Rhonda G. Rhonda, originally from St. Louis, had this idea to start a group for women who embraced or are ready to transition into natural hairstyles. She saw that naturals were scattered all over and she wanted to get everyone in one place. After bouncing ideas off of Cheryl, Fierce Naturals was born on meetup.com.
After the intros came the demonstrations. This is where I really tried my best to pay attention. I've been practicing some styles but the only ones that I've mastered are finger coils and bantu knots (somewhat). Saniyyah selected people in the crowd to model the revamped Hair Milk Collection. She started with Lula, who was seen sporting a TWA (teeny weeny afro) and showed us the simple steps to clean the hair, condition, moisturize and style. She used 4 easy steps to get simple perfect curls. The demos continued and Saniyyah showed us how to get the perfect flat twist and twist out.
After the demos, the crowd began to mingle and shop. I picked up the Hair Milk 4-piece Starter Kit and the Almond Cookie Shea Souffle. Since wearing my hair in it's natural state, I've become sort of a product junkie. After I saw the demos on the Hair Milk products, I was sold!
Overall, it was a great night filled with love and conversations that you'd more than likely have with any of your girlfriends. I definitely cannot wait for the next Fierce Naturals meet-up event. If you are interested in joining, you can do so by checking out their meet-up page or their facebook page. For more information on Mingle and Plei, you can go here.
